TAINAN, Taiwan—After three sold-out performances at the Tainan Cultural Center Performing Hall, audiences who came to see Shen Yun Performing Arts shared their appreciation and admiration for the young artists and what they aspire for.

“I was deeply immersed and even wanted to cry ... Some scenes in the performance made me feel like I was entering a fairy tale. I was so absorbed in the performance, and nothing could distract me. It made me feel comfortable and relaxed,” said Hong Jiachuan, chairman of Herbal Technology Company, after the performance on April 11.

Shen Yun is based in New York, and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

“Chinese culture has been lost for a long time, and the atmosphere of Shen Yun is very touching,” praised Mrs. Hong.

Shen Yun presents the beauty of China before communism, but the artists are not able to perform in China today.

“It’s not easy for a foreign group like Shen Yun, with members from China and Taiwan, to promote the culture, including the strength, endurance, and perseverance of the Chinese people,” said Mrs. Hong.

Shen Yun’s dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“A performance like this is not easy to put together. They must have undergone rigorous training, and the charm conveyed in their every move is truly amazing,” said Mrs. Hong.

Shen Yun’s performances include ethnic and folk dances as well as dance stories. Mrs. Hong shared that she enjoyed the entire performance.

“Each program touched me deeply, and it’s hard to say which one was particularly good. The essence conveyed in each program, the movements, the body language, their posture, and the technical skills they exhibited are all very difficult and remarkable,” she praised.

Mrs. Hong also mentioned that Shen Yun’s performance gave her a profound sense of energy and purification.

“Each scene was a cleansing. You must see Shen Yun’s performance in person and immerse yourself in it,” she said.

“Shen Yun really amazed me. Whether it’s the costume design, the dance, the music, or the backdrop, everything flows naturally and smoothly,” praised Mrs. Hong.

On the afternoon of April 11, Zeng Chongying, conductor of the Fengshan High School Alumni Chinese Orchestra, attended the third performance of Shen Yun at the Tainan Cultural Center.

“The music of Shen Yun is very well done,” he praised.

He noted that the music of Shen Yun is quite delicate, and “you can see that the orchestra conductor has done a very good job.”

Shen Yun’s orchestra is the only one in the world that has traditional Chinese instruments, such as the pipa and erhu, as permanent members of the ensemble.

Mr. Zeng particularly admired Shen Yun’s percussion section.

“I was really amazed! With only two percussion players, they are responsible for all the transitions in the performance. Sometimes it’s just a split-second, and if the gong or wood block isn’t struck properly, the performance effect will be lessened,” he said.

He was pleasantly surprised by Shen Yun’s stage design.

“Something really impressive was the patented digital backdrop. I used to be a stage actor and know how difficult it is to coordinate such elements,” said Mr. Zeng.

Everything that Shen Yun presents to the audience comes together under the guidance of Shen Yun’s artistic director, D.F.

Mr. Zeng shared his great admiration for Shen Yun’s artistic director.

“You are amazing. Please continue doing what you are doing and allow more people to understand Chinese arts. I hope the artistic director of Shen Yun continues creating even better and more fantastic works and performances for us,” he said.

Hospital Director Zhang Zhaorong attended the third performance of Shen Yun at the Tainan Cultural Center.

Mr. Zhang praised Shen Yun for promoting traditional cultural ideals.

“Shen Yun helps foreigners understand Chinese culture, making a significant contribution to cultural promotion,” he said.

“Shen Yun is very warm, positive, and inspiring, promoting more positive ideas. The content is meaningful and thematic, expressing traditional Chinese stories very well. It’s really remarkable.”

Shen Yun shares the idea of the Creator giving life and order to everyone and everything. Mr. Zhang was led to think of the profound meaning behind everything.

“Whether it’s the earth or the universe, it must have all begun due to some force. Whoever created the world or the universe must be significant,” he remarked.

As someone who used to reject spirituality, Mr. Zhang shared that he began to believe in the divine
as he got older.

“Originally, I didn’t quite believe in this because I studied science. But even Einstein ultimately chose to believe in God. As I grow older, I also started to believe [in God] and better understand what Shen Yun’s performance aims to convey,” he said.
